At #OntheHill2021, Carole Robertson’s legacy was honored on Sunday at the Carole Robertson Hope & Change Prayer Breakfast & Gospel Extravaganza. Carole - a member of our organization- was one of four little girls killed on September 15, 1963 when a bomb was planted at the 16th Street Baptist Church in Birmingham, AL. In honor of Carole Robertson Day (CRD) 2024, Jack and Jill of America, Inc.’s National Executive Board 2024-2026 shared a heartfelt message and read “Seven Days with Carole,” a book published in 2013 by Jacks and Jills (now JJ Alumni) from the Suffolk County Chapter. The book imagines Carole’s life for seven days and the activities she would have enjoyed. #OnThisDay in 1963, a bomb planted by the Ku Klux Klan ripped through the 16th Street Baptist Church, in Birmingham, Alabama, killing 4 little girls—11-year-old Carol Denise McNair, and 14-year-olds Carole Robertson, Cynthia Diane Wesley and Addie Mae Collins—and injuring several others. This atrocity marked the third bombing in 11 days in Birmingham, Alabama, following the federal court order integrating Alabama schools.
